Longhouse Tours
1. Longhouse Experience on the Lemanak River (2 days, 1 night)Day 1 0900hrs – pick-up from hotel and drive to Lemanak River (4 hrs). Short stops will be made to experience the colourful market in Serian, a pepper farm and exotic wild orchids and pitcher plants. Lunch along the way. Enjoy the river safari transfer to Serubah longhouse, where dinner, relaxation and Iban culture await you. Overnight stay at a jungle lodge. (L,D) Day 2 After breakfast, witness a cockfighting and blowpipe demonstration, followed by a short jungle walk. Depart down river by longboat, then by coach directly to Kuching. Lunch. 2. Longhouse Experience on the Lemanak River (3 days, 2 nights)Day 1 (0900hrs) Pick up from hotel, and travel 4 hours to Lemanak River. Various stops will be made to visit the vibrant market in Serian, view exotic orchids and pitcher plants, and visit a pepper garden. Lunch en route. Upon arrival at the river, enjoy the longboat journey to the Serubah Longhouse, where you can settle into the jungle lodge. After dinner, visit the longhouse, and enjoy the welcoming Iban hospitality. Overnight at lodge. (L,D) Day 2 The programme is flexible; you may choose from a variety of activities around the longhouse, in the jungle or visit the nearby up-river longhouse. Overnight at lodge. (B,L,D) Day 3 After breakfast, witness cockfighting and blowpipe demonstrations, and explore the village further. Depart by longboat, then return to Kuching by coach. (B,L) Includes:

Longhouse Life: Nature and Culture at Ulu Ai (3 days, 2 nights)Situated in the Iban heartland, a trip to Ulu Ai takes you back to a time where life is lived more simply, uncomplicated by time constraints. Set in idyllic surroundings, with clear, clean streams, refreshing waterfalls, and breathtaking treks along the rainforest trails, Ulu Ai offers a longhouse tour enhanced by the delights and magnificence of natural Borneo. Day 1: Kuching - Nanga Sumpa Longhouse 0730hrs - Depart by shuttle overland for Batang Ai reservoir (41/2 hours). Upon arrival at the Batang Ai reservoir, journey for 1 - 2 hours by river to Nanga Sumpa, and settle into Borneo Adventure’s jungle lodge. After dinner, culture and relaxation await at the Iban longhouse. Overnight lodge. (D) Day 2: Nanga Sumpa Following breakfast, hike the leafy jungle trails along the river to the scenic Enseluai Waterfall. Time to relax, swim, explore the rainforest and have lunch or try fishing Iban-style. Return to the lodge. After dinner, visit the longhouse where handicrafts are available for display upon request and may be purchased directly from the longhouse people. (B,L,D) Day 3: Nanga Sumpa Longhouse - Kuching Following breakfast, depart down river by longboat, then overland to Kuching. Drop off at hotel or transfer directly to the airport for departure. 4. Ulu Karangas Safari (2 days/1 night)Day 1: Kuching – Pantu - Kerangas Longhouse Depart early morning for the majestic and historic Strap River where there have been many battles fought between the local Iban and the White Rajahs of Sarawak. The Second Rajah, Sir Charles Brooke spent his formative years on this river and there are still tales told of his exploits. The 3-hour journey from Kuching passes the market town of Serian and along the way you will pass by plantations of rubber, cocoa, and pepper gardens. At Pantu jetty, transfer to one of the traditional built longboats for an approximate one hour and a half’s journey to the interior of the Strap River. Upon arrival at Kerangas longhouse, you will be the guest of the village chief (tuai rumah). In the evening, a jungle repast followed with entertainment, Iban style. Overnight in the longhouse. (L,D) Day 2: Kerangas - Pantu - Kuching After breakfast, visit the local school, rubber and pepper gardens before saying farewell to your host as we proceed to Pantu and continue overland back to Kuching. Return to Kerangas longhouse in the late afternoon in search of wildlife. Overnight in the longhouse. (B,L,D) Day 3: Kerangas - Pantu - Kuching After breakfast, visit the local school, rubber and pepper gardens before saying farewell to your host as we proceed to Pantu and continue overland back to Kuching.
