This extraordinary open-air museum is presided over by manager Jane Lian Labang, a member of Kuhing’s Kelabit community, and a former dancer with an interest in preservation and authenticity. At the village, you’ll get immersed in Iban, Chinese, Malay, Melanau, Bidayuh, Penan, and Orang Ulu cultures. You can stay here in a longhouse if you wish, and even get married here. The 56 page guidebook, by Mike Reed and Wayne Tarman, is well worth purchasing, as it discusses each culture, the artifacts you’ll see, and some of the well-known artisans working in the village.
